expression profile of rice genes with specific reference to
regulatory factors and signal transduction components will be
generated by micro-array and PCR based technology.
Genes associated with rice panicles,
reproductive organs, embryo, endosperm, grain development and
meristem determination will be identified.
Expression profiling of important genes
will be carried out in germplasm generated under "Impact
Research and Delivery" research area under NCFGR to correlate
expression with yield and biotic stress resistance components.
Bio-informatics platform for data mining
in relation to rice genes will be established.
Logistics for functional genomics like
(a) targeted gene integration by homologous recombination, (b)
in-situ hybridization, and (c) viral vector-based
gene silencing would be developed.
Function of selected genes, promoters,
tools, and resources for genetic enhancement of
rice will be evaluated.
Germplasm diversification by utilizing
transgenic rice with promising improved traits would be initiated
towards the end of five year duration project.
